To get us in the mood for spring cleaning, I'm going to share one of my FAVORITE ways to make my home smell delicious! All you will need is the peels from 2 oranges, a little bit of ground cinnamon, and a small pot of water.
Toss the peels in the pot, sprinkle a little cinnamon over them, fill with about 2 cups of water, and let simmer. Yes, its that easy! And I promise this smells better than any other store bought freshener! Tip: if you're not ready to use the peels as soon as you peel the orange, simply put them in a ziplock and toss them into the freezer- they'll smell just as great as the fresh peels! Happy Friday =)
Don't forget to add this recipe to your Spring Cleaning Pinterest board!!!
I love doing this! My house smells so good afterwards!

I do this often. Cloves make a great addition as well or instead of cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea! I'm going to have to try this. I love the smell of citrus peels and cinnamon but I have never thought of putting them together. How long do you usually let it simmer/sit out? Can you leave the bowl sitting out for a day or two?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, if I'm home all day I'll let it simmer for the majority of the day- the only thing is that you need to remember to keep an eye on the water and add more, or it will burn to the bottom! If you leave water in it overnight, its usually still good for a second day,but any longer than that there is the possibility for "science experiments" to start growing- I've totally been there! Haha!
DeleteThis might give me a good reason to spend some time in the kitchen! The kitchen sure needs it!! :)
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing this idea, it did sounds easy to make. I can definitely use this because i cook dried fish and it stinks. air freshener can be too expensive with this i think not only our house will smell good but i can save too :D

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I will have to try it, as we often get yucky smells emanating from the kitchen, and I hate when the house stinks!

Thanks so much for sharing this at my link party last week! I'm not a fan of typical air freshener smells (plus I really don't like all of those chemicals being put into the air we breathe), so this is perfect for me! I plan to try it out tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI hope you can link up again this week!
LOVE this!! I usually peel my oranges over the garbage disposal sink so they will make that smell yummy but I'll have to remember to freeze some so I can add some to a simmer pot on my stove! Thanks for linking up to Showy Sunday over at www.leroylime.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, I'm pinning this right now. Thanks for linking up at Crafty Tuesday. :)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you could use the liquid in a spray bottle? Does anyone know?
ReplyDeleteI personally have not tried it yet, I will this week and let you know! I can imagine that if you were going to do that you would have to use a smaller bottle and refrigerate it, so it stays fresh and doesn't mold. I'll experiment and get back to you :)
